Persistent reflux symptoms: If you regularly have heartburn, experience acid reflux, or are troubled by a mysterious cough that will not go away.

Thanks to deep sedation with an intravenous anaesthetic, you are completely relaxed throughout the procedure, with no pain and no choking gag reflex. You will not experience any discomfort.

Because the patient's body is completely relaxed, the specialist gastroenterologist can guide the instrument with maximum precision and without obstruction. This allows an extremely thorough, detailed view of the lining.

Taking advantage of anaesthesia, it is also possible to have gastroscopy and colonoscopy performed together in one go. This saves you a great deal of time, and we can map your entire digestive tract with a single anaesthetic.
A completely empty stomach is essential for a successful and safe examination. You can still have a light dinner the evening before the examination, but from midnight eating, drinking, smoking and chewing gum are strictly forbidden.
In the examination room, you lie comfortably on your left side with your legs bent and your head tilted slightly down. The specialist anaesthetist administers the modern anaesthetic, and you immediately fall into a deep sleep, while our nurses look after your safety throughout.
The doctor gently passes the thin, flexible gastroscope through the oesophagus into the stomach and the duodenum. Our modern video endoscopy system gives a razor-sharp image of the lining, while separate channels allow air and water to be introduced.
If the doctor sees a suspicious change or a polyp, a sample is taken or the polyp is removed immediately through the channel, completely painlessly. This way, treatment happens at the same time, and you then wake up safely in a pleasant recovery room.
