Persistent symptoms of reflux: If you regularly suffer from heartburn, acid reflux or a persistent, unexplained cough.

Under deep anaesthesia with propofol, you will sleep through the procedure in a completely relaxed state, without any pain or the urge to gag. You will not experience any discomfort whatsoever.

As the patient’s body is completely relaxed, the gastroenterologist can manoeuvre the instrument with the utmost precision and without any hindrance. This allows for an extremely thorough and detailed examination of the mucosa.

By taking advantage of the benefits of anaesthesia, it is possible to for the combined performance of gastroscopy and colonoscopy as well. This saves a great deal of time, and allows us to examine the entire digestive system under a single anaesthetic.
An entirely empty stomach is essential for a successful and safe examination. You may have a light dinner the evening before the examination, but from midnight onwards, eating, drinking, smoking and chewing gum are strictly prohibited.
In the examination room, you will lie comfortably on your left side, with your legs bent and your head tilted slightly downwards. The anaesthetist will administer a modern anaesthetic, and you will immediately fall into a deep sleep, whilst our specialist nurses monitor your safety throughout the procedure.
The doctor gently guides the thin, flexible gastroscope through the oesophagus into the stomach and duodenum. Our modern video-endoscopy system provides a crystal-clear image of the mucous membrane, whilst separate channels ensure the supply of air and water.
If the doctor detects a suspicious lesion or polyp, they will immediately take a sample or remove the polyp via the canal – a completely painless procedure. The treatment is therefore carried out at the same time, after which you will come round safely in a comfortable recovery room.
