Gastroscopy is recommended for so-called alarm symptoms - for example
loss of appetite, undue weight loss, nausea, vomiting, food poisoning, bleeding or
gastric emptying disorder - when you apply. For certain diseases, such as Crohn's disease, it may be necessary to have a mirror without symptoms. Many other stomach upsets or digestive problems may also require a gastroscopy.
Even if you are careful, gastroscopy is an unpleasant test. To avoid this, in our centres gastroscopy can be performed under general anaesthesia - the patient feels nothing from the examination, but wakes up easily 1-2 minutes after the anaesthetic is stopped.
Presentation of the test
Then, our surgeon will use a thin fibre-optic instrument to examine the oesophagus, stomach and horseshoe. If necessary, a tissue sample will be taken with the instrument and therapeutic interventions may be performed, such as the removal of small polyps or haemostasis.
What to know about the test
After a gastroscopy, you should not eat or drink for at least half an hour - the anaesthetic fluid can make you feel sick.
If indicated, the examining specialist may take a histological sample or, depending on the patient's condition, remove polyp(s). The cost of these procedures is not included in the price of the examination.
Settlement also to a health fund account
The fee for the examination can of course also be charged to your health insurance account - our colleagues will be happy to provide you with more details. Visit
