People infected with helicobacter are at a significantly increased risk of developing certain digestive diseases, from gastritis to diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers or stomach cancer. Of course, not everyone infected with helicobacter becomes ill - this is determined by factors such as time, environmental influences or even the patient's genetic make-up. And recent research has shown that Helicobacter pylori infection in children can also cause developmental delay and reduced performance.
Helicobacter pylori is relatively easy and simple to screen for, so it is advisable to check your own infection, especially if you have a history of digestive tract problems or a family history of stomach and duodenal ulcers or stomach cancer.
There are several methods of screening for helicobacter infection, the most common being the non-invasive C14 urea-breath helicobacter test.
Helicobacter is not only easy to screen for, but also curable. To eradicate the bacterium, a course of medication of about one to two weeks is necessary, and a doctor will decide whether it is justified. As the course of treatment includes antibiotics and other drugs, the prescription must also be made by a doctor.
Presentation of the test

What to know about the test
The test can be done by anyone, but 4 hours before the test, the patient is not allowed to eat, only clean water is allowed. Water should not be consumed for 1 hour before the procedure. Smoking and chewing gum are prohibited. Tooth brushing is only possible with clean water and without toothpaste.
If you have been treated with antibiotics, you should wait at least 4 weeks after the end of treatment before having the test, and 5 days if you are taking antacid medication (antacid medication means, for example, H2-receptor blockers or proton pump blockers).
