Product of the month: Microbiome test
There are cases where a superficial examination is not sufficient. Using a rectoscope, our specialists examine a deeper section of the rectum, covering a length of 20–25 cm, enabling the early, life-saving detection of polyps, inflammation and cancerous lesions – all in a gentle, professional setting.
Rectal bleeding of unknown origin: If the cause of the bleeding cannot be attributed to external haemorrhoids.
Changes in bowel habits: In cases of persistent alternating constipation and diarrhoea.
Loosening stools: This may indicate a narrowing of the rectum.
Lower abdominal pain or tightness: Which radiates outwards towards the deeper parts of the rectum.
Suspected polyps or follow-up: For the regular monitoring of previously diagnosed conditions.
A sensation of a foreign body or persistent mucus discharge: Which may originate in the upper third of the rectum.
Cancer prevention (screening): For those aged 40–50 or over, or in cases of a family history of the condition, even in the absence of symptoms.
Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): To assess the severity of symptoms and the condition of the mucous membrane.
I.
Whilst anoscopy only allows us to view the beginning of the rectum, rectoscopy enables us to examine the entire length of the rectum (approx. 20–25 cm). This distance is critical because a significant proportion of rectal cancers develop in this section, making the examination crucial for early detection.
II.
During the examination, we use a specialised instrument fitted with an optical system. During the procedure, we inflate the bowel walls with a small amount of air to smooth them out; whilst this may cause a sensation of tightness, it enables us to detect even the slightest abnormalities in the mucous membrane. Our specialists’ extensive experience ensures that the procedure takes as little time as possible.
III.
At the end of the examination, you will not be left in any doubt. The doctor will immediately assess the findings, explain the nature of the lesions and draw up a treatment plan – whether this involves drug therapy, further imaging tests or specialist surgical intervention.
Arrival: Please, 20 minutes earlier Please ensure that you arrive in time for us to carry out the gentle on-site cleansing (LaxaClean). This means there is no need for a laxative at home.
