When is a combined abdominal and thyroid ultrasound recommended?
We map the abdominal organs and the thyroid in a single visit — for the complaints below, this combined examination is the quickest route to answers.
-
Abdominal complaints of unknown origin
If the causes are unclear, it is important to check the organs of the digestive and urinary systems.
-
Unexplained weight loss or weight gain
Thyroid dysfunction often causes changes in body weight.
-
Urological complaints
For example, problems passing urine or frequent urinary tract infections.
-
Thyroid symptoms
A lump-in-the-throat feeling, hoarseness, a palpable lump in the neck, tiredness, hair loss.
-
Known chronic conditions
For example, liver, spleen or kidney disease, diabetes or high blood pressure.
-
Annual preventive screening
Recommended even if you have no complaints, so that hidden lesions can be detected in time.
-
Metabolic disorders
For example, high cholesterol or blood lipid levels, or suspected gallstones or kidney stones.
-
Family history
If there is a family history of thyroid disease, tumours or abdominal organ disease.
One visit, two organs — and with the report in hand, treatment planning can start on the day of the examination.
This list is for information only and does not replace a specialist examination. Ultrasound shows the structure of the organs; assessing how the thyroid works also requires a hormone test. If you have any questions, call us: 06-1-413-2500 (H–P 9–17).
Why choose a combined ultrasound examination at Endomedix?
-
01
Precise and immediate evaluation
During the examination, our specialists analyse the structure of the organs in detail. You receive a detailed medical report on the results and any abnormalities straight away, so there is no waiting for a diagnosis.
-
02
Completely painless and safe
The examination involves no intervention or radiation exposure. The measurements are comfortable and can be repeated as often as needed, making them ideal for monitoring the condition of the organs.
-
03
Option of a specialist consultation
At Endomedix, we can also combine the ultrasound examination with a specialist gastroenterology consultation. This approach means that, once the diagnosis is known, treatment planning can start on the day of the examination.
How should you prepare for the examination?
No special preparation is needed for the combined ultrasound, but a few small things help us in our work.
-
01
Abdominal ultrasound: empty stomach
Because of the abdominal part, come to the examination on an empty stomach so that the organs can be seen clearly.
-
02
Thyroid: easy access to the neck
The thyroid examination needs no preparation; make sure your necklace can be taken off, or leave it at home.
-
03
Previous reports
If you have had an ultrasound before, bring the report so that the doctor can compare how the condition of your organs has changed.
-
04
Medicines
Take your regular medicines — especially blood pressure medication — as usual.
Did you know?
Five questions and answers about the examination and the report.
-
Did you know that ultrasound can detect changes in the thyroid and the abdominal organs at an early stage?
When abnormalities are detected early, more serious disease can still be prevented with lifestyle changes or medication, so it is worth having a screening even if you have no complaints.
-
Did you know that ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation?
This makes the examination safe for everyone, including pregnant women and children, and it can be repeated as often as needed for follow-up.
-
Did you know that you need to arrive on an empty stomach for an abdominal ultrasound?
A full stomach and the gas in it hide the abdominal organs, so do not eat for at least six hours before the examination. This ensures that the organs can be seen clearly on the screen.
-
Did you know that thyroid ultrasound needs no preparation at all?
For the neck examination, you do not need to arrive on an empty stomach or with a full bladder: you can eat and drink beforehand as normal. All you need to do is take off your necklace and make sure your neck can easily be uncovered.
