Small bowel examination

Small bowel testing - small bowel testing methods are divided into four main groups.

The first group includes small intestineabdominal abnormalities (passport examination, abdominal X-ray, double contrast small bowel X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, abdominal CT/MR, isotopic methods, fibreoptic examinations /push enteroscopy, intraoperative enteroscopy and double balloon enteroscopy/ and capsule small bowel examination).

In the second group are small intestineinclude studies of the function of. These include oral stress tests (sugar absorption tests, iron stress test), exhalation tests (sugar absorption tests), isotopic methods (fat absorption tests, vitamin B12 absorption test, bile acid absorption test).

The third group includes laboratory tests on blood and stool samples.

In the fourth group are small intestinehistological examination (fibreoptic sampling, biopsy capsule).

Most examinations are time-consuming and complicated, and fibre-optic examinations are usually performed under general anaesthesia.
