Small intestine tumour – within the gastrointestinal tract, tumours of the small intestine are the rarest.
The small intestinetumours can be benign or malignant, and hormone-producing tumours also occur.
They may remain symptom-free for a long time; they cause complaints when they grow large (cramping abdominal pain, bleeding, recurrent bowel obstruction, vomiting), produce hormones (diarrhoea, other hormonal disturbances) or spread (liver-area pain, abdominal pain).
Risk factors include older age, male sex, smoking, eating fatty foods, certain hereditary diseases and conditions following radiotherapy.
