Pancreatic surgery – in the treatment of acute pancreatitis, surgery is usually only considered at a late stage (after at least 3 weeks).
Mainly if the inflamed pancreasbecomes secondarily infected or complications develop.
The pancreatic cancer: in only about 10-15% of cases is curative surgery possible; in this operation, a section of the duodenum is removed together with the affected pancreas.
In addition to surgery, combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy are often needed.
In advanced cases, surgery can no longer bring meaningful results. Bridging chemotherapy and radiotherapy may then be considered.
