Location and structure of the oral cavity – the oral cavity (cavum oris) is the first part of the digestive tract, extending from the mouth opening on the front of the head, on the face, to the isthmus of the fauces.
It is bordered at the front by the lips (labia), at the sides by the cheeks (bucca), above by the palate (its front part is the hard palate, its back part the soft palate, from the middle of which the uvula [uvula] hangs), and below by the tongue (lingua).
The oral cavity’s teeth (the lower and upper dental arches) form a boundary within the oral cavity, dividing it into the front vestibule and the rear, true oral cavity, or cavum oris proprium.
