Oral tumour – oral tumours are relatively common; they occur mainly in smokers, regular drinkers and people with poor oral hygiene, usually over the age of 50.
Systemic diseases, which affect the whole body, can also appear in the oral cavity’s tissues as a space-occupying growth (e.g. thickening of the gums [gingival hyperplasia] with certain medications [e.g. ciclosporin, phenytoin] or in leukaemia).
