Liver cyst – cystic lesions of the liver (fluid-filled sacs in the liver) are extremely common, and in most cases they are harmless.
If a cyst is large (over 10 centimetres), there is a high chance of the liver-cyst rupturing (from a blow or injury), which can cause bleeding.
Lesions of this size are therefore best removed surgically, or drained, with the inside of the liver-cyst then made to scar (so-called sclerotherapy).
