Oesophagus-examination – radiological methods (barium swallow X-ray, videofluoroscopic swallowing examination, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging), fibre-optic examinations (endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound) and oesophagus-function tests (manometry, pH monitoring, isotope motility testing, multichannel impedance testing) all play a role in examining the oesophagus.
Samples for histological examination can only be taken during an endoscopic examination.
