Diseases of the colon – of the many diseases of the colon, the most important are its inflammatory conditions (inflammatory bowel diseases /Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis/, diverticulitis, infectious inflammation), tumours (polyps, colorectal cancer), blood supply disorders and motility disorders (constipation, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome).
Any colondisease may typically present with a change in bowel habits (alternating diarrhoea and constipation), blood in the stool, abdominal pain, bloating or increased gas production.
