Treatment of colorectal tumours – tumours of the colon are treated primarily with surgery, which means removing the affected section of bowel.
This may be preceded or followed by radiotherapy (mainly in rectal cancer) or chemotherapy.
With today's treatment options, colorectal tumours detected at an early stage have very good survival and recovery rates.
The problem is that people do not attend screening, or only see a doctor late, when the chances of treatment and survival are more limited.
