Pancreatic cancer – the third most common malignant tumour of the digestive system.
Since pancreascancer causes few symptoms and is therefore usually diagnosed at an advanced stage, it is one of the tumours with the worst prognosis, leading to death within a few weeks to months in most cases.
The most important risk factors are smoking and the consumption of aromatic amines. Other risk factors for cancer of the pancreasinclude obesity, diabetes, cadmium poisoning, certain cancer syndromes (cancer family syndrome, hereditary non-polyposis syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis syndrome), metabolic diseases and cystic fibrosis.
