Rectoscopy – fibre-optic instruments (rectoscope, anoscope) are also used to examine the rectum and the anus.
The rectoscopyexamination is best performed after a bowel movement and a cleansing enema.
The anus; with a rectoscope passed through it, the section measured from the anus, about 20-25 cm long, can be assessed, while an anoscope allows the folds of the anusto be smoothed out, so that fissures and haemorrhoidal changes can be seen more clearly.
