Symptoms and treatment of rectal diseases – bloody stools, rectal bleeding, a feeling of “incomplete emptying” after a bowel movement, pelvic pain, a change in bowel habits (alternating diarrhoea and constipation), discharge from the rectum, difficulty holding stool, pain during bowel movements, and pain or itching of the skin around the rectummay indicate rectal and anusdiseases.
The rectumdiseases are treated according to the underlying cause. Infections and inflammation are treated with medication (tablets, suppositories, enemas), while fistulas and tumours may require surgery or endoscopic procedures.
Both radiotherapy and chemotherapy are used in the treatment of tumours.
