This means we can assess a patient's entire GI tract, take a histological sample or perform minor procedures in a single procedure.
Presentation of the test
The first step is a colonoscopy, which usually involves a 170 centimetre-long instrument that is used to look at the whole colon. Tissue samples are taken from abnormal lesions through a channel in the instrument, and any colon polyps found can be removed to prevent colon cancer.
Our doctor will then also perform a gastroscopy, which uses a thin fibre-optic instrument to examine the oesophagus, stomach and horseshoe. If necessary, a tissue sample will be taken using the instrument and therapeutic interventions may be carried out, such as the removal of small polyps or to stop bleeding.
What to know about the test
Prior to gastroscopy and colonoscopy, a personal gastroenterology consultation is also required, where the specialist performing the procedure assesses the patient's condition and starts preparing the patient for the examination.
If indicated, the examining specialist may take a histological sample or, depending on the patient's condition, remove polyp(s). The cost of these procedures is not included in the price of the examination.
Proper preparation is essential for the success of the examination, which involves a thorough cleansing of the colon using various preparation agents. In our centres, we mainly use a preparatory powder called Endogol, which is an excellent colon cleanser, an isotonic solution that prevents the patient from having diarrhoea and upsetting the balance of important minerals.
In our centres, to counteract the energy loss and consequent weakness caused by the required 3-day liquid diet, we prescribe formula for 3 days of preparation, which allows our patients to tolerate the test preparation much better than patients prepared in other medical institutions.
Settlement also to a health fund account
The fee for the examination can of course also be charged to your health insurance account - our colleagues will be happy to provide you with more details. Visit
