Gastritis

Gastritis - Inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis) is popularly known as gastritis.

Gastritis can be acute (food poisoning, acid-alkali damage, drug-induced gastritis [non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs], irradiation or heat damage, viral infection/zoster, fungal infection [candidiasis]) or chronic (chronic active gastritis [associated with Helicobacter infection], chronic mucosal form with mucosal necrosis [autoimmune or caused by Helicobacter pylori infection]).

Special Stomachdisorders include chronic erosive gastropathy (Helicobacter-dependent and -independent type, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory type), exudative gastropathy (Menetrier type) and portal hypertensive gastropathy (mainly seen in alcoholics).
