The most effective cancer prevention examination

Colonoscopy (Large Bowel Endoscopy)

The aim of colonoscopy is to detect changes inside the bowel – such as polyps, narrowing, inflammation or even a tumour. Important procedures can also be carried out during colonoscopy: for example, bowel polyps that can lead to cancer can be removed, and tissue samples can be taken for histology.

  • Prevention, not just diagnosis Any polyp we find is removed immediately and painlessly.
  • Also available under anaesthesia Just as accurate when you are awake — anaesthesia is a matter of comfort.
  • CO₂ insufflation Carbon dioxide is absorbed much faster than air.
  • High-resolution optics Even the smallest change in the mucosa is visible.
Eight signs that need investigating

Which symptoms should prompt you to get checked?

Colonoscopy detects precancerous conditions even before they cause symptoms. With the complaints below, however, the examination is specifically recommended.

  • Blood in the stool

Fresh or clotted blood in the stool always requires immediate investigation to find the exact cause.

  • Changes in bowel habits

If your usual bowel habits change for a long period, with frequent constipation or unexplained diarrhoea, it is worth seeing a specialist.

  • Chronic abdominal pain

Recurring, cramping abdominal pain or constant tightness in the lower abdomen may be caused by changes that can be detected by endoscopy.

  • Unexplained weight loss

If you lose a significant amount of weight in a short time without dieting, your digestive system needs a thorough check.

  • Iron deficiency anaemia

Iron deficiency in your lab results can often point to hidden bleeding in the bowel, which only a precise endoscopic examination can confirm.

  • A constant feeling of bloating

Increased gas and a feeling of abdominal tightness may be caused by bowel inflammation or narrowing, which is important to diagnose in time.

  • Family history

If a close relative has previously been diagnosed with bowel cancer, regular screening is strongly recommended as a preventive measure.

  • Age over 50

Screening is recommended over the age of 50 even if you have no symptoms, as precancerous polyps can still be removed before they cause any symptoms.

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar? Colonoscopy diagnoses and treats in a single visit.

This list is for information only and does not replace an examination by a specialist. If you are unsure which examination you need, call us: 06-1-413-2500 (H–P 9–17).

Three reasons that make the decision easier

Why choose Endomedix?

  • Active cancer prevention

It is the most effective way to prevent cancer, because our specialists remove any precancerous polyps found during the examination immediately and completely painlessly. This simple procedure can stop more serious diseases from developing, so in a single session you can take care of your long-term health.

  • Cutting-edge technology

We use the most advanced high-resolution video endoscopy systems, which provide a crystal-clear digital image of the entire bowel. With the help of state-of-the-art fibre optics, our doctors can precisely identify even the smallest, barely noticeable changes in the mucosa, ensuring the highest possible diagnostic accuracy.

  • Comprehensive solutions

We provide every patient with complete diagnostic and therapeutic care in a single visit. Whether it is taking a sample of suspicious tissue or a therapeutic procedure, our specialists carry out every necessary step during the examination. So you do not need to worry about separate appointments, because with us every problem is dealt with straight away.

The road to recovery

The test process step by step

Four steps from consultation to a personalised treatment plan.

  • Medical chart and speech bubble: consultation and preparation
    01

    Consultation and preparation

Careful preparation is the basis of a successful examination, which is why our specialists support you from the very beginning. During the consultation we discuss your complaints in detail and then give you our guide to the special diet and gentle bowel preparation. This ensures that on the day of the procedure you arrive at our clinic as safely as possible and in optimal physical condition.

  • A medical shield held in protective hands: safe care and anaesthesia
    02

    Safe arrival and care

On the day of the procedure, we welcome you in a calm environment, where our qualified assistants help you with everything. If you choose the examination under anaesthesia, our anaesthesia team ensures that you feel no pain and are monitored continuously. Our aim is for you to feel as comfortable as possible before and during the examination, easing any anxiety or uncertainty.

  • Endoscope and biopsy forceps: polyp removal during the examination
    03

    Precise diagnosis and treatment

During the examination, we use the latest technology to map the entire bowel, with great care and precision. If our doctors detect polyps or other changes, they remove them immediately and painlessly during the procedure, or take a tissue sample if needed. This way, you receive complete diagnostics and any necessary immediate treatment in a single session.

  • Report held in hand with a checklist and a DNA spiral: presenting the report
    04

    Expert report and aftercare

Straight after the procedure, you receive the detailed medical documentation, which our specialist explains to you in clear terms. We do not just make a diagnosis: we also prepare a personalised treatment plan and lifestyle recommendations to support long-term freedom from symptoms. Our aim is for you to leave us reassured, with clear answers and a solid recovery plan in hand.

If you have anaesthesia, please come with an adult companion and do not drive on the day of the examination. You will receive your exact arrival time and preparation instructions when you book.

What you should know about colonoscopy

Did you know?

Ten questions and answers about colonoscopy.

  • Did you know that colonoscopy both diagnoses and treats?

The unique advantage of colonoscopy is that during the examination the doctor can not only identify polyps that signal a precancerous condition but also remove them straight away. This means that a single procedure can prevent malignant changes from developing, so the examination is not just a diagnostic step but an active, life-saving intervention.

  • Did you know that modern carbon dioxide insufflation (CO₂) makes you more comfortable after the procedure?

The room air used in conventional endoscopic examinations is absorbed more slowly by the body, which can cause bloating and abdominal tightness after the procedure. The innovative CO₂ technology used at Endomedix works because carbon dioxide is absorbed through the bowel wall up to a hundred times faster than air. As a result, our patients are free of discomfort almost immediately after the examination.

  • Did you know that iron deficiency anaemia often has a cause in the bowel?

Many people do not know that constant tiredness, dizziness or low iron levels in lab results may be caused by bleeding from the bowel that is invisible to the naked eye. Colonoscopy is an essential tool for finding the cause of iron deficiency, as it can pinpoint the source, such as inflammation, an ulcer or a polyp.

  • Did you know that screening is recommended over the age of 50 even if you have no symptoms?

Colorectal cancer often causes no noticeable symptoms for years while it develops silently in the body. According to international recommendations, everyone over the age of 50 should have at least one screening colonoscopy, whether or not they have any complaints. If there is a family history of the disease, it is worth starting screening even earlier.

  • Did you know that the anaesthesia used during colonoscopy is completely safe?

Many people are afraid of anaesthesia, but modern medicine and our experienced anaesthesia team make the process safe. Intravenous anaesthetics can be dosed precisely, so you are deeply asleep during the examination and fully alert again within minutes of waking up.

  • Did you know that removing colon polyps is a completely painless process?

Although the examination itself can sometimes cause a feeling of tightness, the inner lining of the bowel has no pain receptors. This allows the doctor to remove polyps or take a tissue sample (biopsy) safely during the endoscopy, even without pain relief. So you feel nothing at all while the specialist carries out these life-saving procedures.

  • Did you know that your diet before the examination fundamentally determines the success of the diagnosis?

The accuracy of a colonoscopy depends largely on how clean the bowel wall is at the time of the procedure. The special three-day liquid diet and modern laxatives are designed to make the mucosa perfectly visible to the camera. In a properly cleaned bowel, the doctor can spot even millimetre-sized, flat changes that could otherwise remain hidden.

  • Did you know that a genetic predisposition can significantly increase the risk of bowel disease?

Research shows that people with a family history of colorectal cancer or severe polyposis – especially in first-degree relatives – are statistically more likely to develop the disease. In such cases, screening is recommended from the age of 40, or ten years before the age at which the affected relative was diagnosed. A genetic predisposition does not mean the disease is inevitable; it simply calls for more frequent check-ups.

  • Did you know that you can return to your normal diet almost immediately after a colonoscopy?

Many people worry about a long recovery after the examination, but recovery after a colonoscopy is extremely quick. If no major procedure was performed, patients can eat and drink after a short rest once the examination is over. We recommend that your first meal is easy to digest, but you do not need to follow a strict diet for weeks.

  • Did you know that chronic bloating and gas may be caused by a narrowing of the bowel?

Although bloating is often put down to food intolerance, persistent, recurring abdominal tightness and difficulty passing wind can also point to a mechanical obstruction in the bowel. During colonoscopy, our doctors can check whether an inflammatory narrowing or other change is blocking the free passage of the bowel contents. Once an accurate diagnosis has been made, the unpleasant symptom can be relieved with targeted treatment.

Freedom of choice

Colonoscopy under anaesthesia

At Endomedix, you can also have the examination under anaesthesia, which ensures complete physical and mental calm: you sleep through the procedure and experience no discomfort at all. It is important to know that the procedure is just as thorough and precise when you are awake, so anaesthesia is an optional comfort service. Whichever option you choose, our experienced doctors and modern equipment ensure a gentle, safe and accurate diagnosis.
